BUGZ AWAY is based in South Africa where Malaria and various other Fly and Bug borne diseases exist.

BUGZ AWAY has travelled various African Countries including South Africa for more than 25 years. Some of our clients include Defence Forces in Africa, Game Lodges, Hotels, Guest Houses and Game Farms. Over the years we have been exposed to most of the insect repellents available on the market in Africa which also includes prescription medication for malaria.

BUGZ AWAY has developed a natural repellent for various flies and bugs which includes mosquitoes. No natural or chemically designed spray or repellent can guarantee 100% effectivity as there are various factors that come into play when fighting the bite of an insect or a bug in Africa that can transmit a deadly disease.

I have personally lost a few friends and colleagues over the years that contracted Malaria and tick fever despite taking all possible precautions which included medication and repellents. So we need to be vigilant and educated on this subject matter.

Many people prefer to incorporate NATURAL REPELLENTS in conjunction with mosquito medication and this is where BUGZ AWAY offers our solution.

BUGZ AWAY has done extensive research in terms of the combination of natural blended plant and oil ingredients we have incorporated into the development of our products. Our product offers a natural solution to fighting the bug bite for adults and children. Our products are also safe to use for people suffering from diabetes and epilepsy.

Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, chikungunya, yellow fever, filariasis, tularemia, dirofilariasis, Japanese encephalitis, Saint Louis encephalitis, Western equine encephalitis, Eastern equine encephalitis, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, Ross River fever, Barmah Forest fever, La Crosse encephalitis, and Zika fever, as well as newly detected Keystone virus and Rift Valley fever.

Bites from ticks can cause at least two Tick bite fevers in Africa: Boutonneuse fever and African tick bite fever. Sand fly bites can infect you with Leishmaniasis and last but not least Black Flies can transmit two diseases to humans: onchocerciasis, known as “river blindness,” and mansonellosis.

People are usually prone to mosquito bites due to a combination of scent, light, heat, and humidity. If you’re a mosquito magnet, you’re probably tired of having itchy, bumpy skin.

Different species of mosquitoes — like the ones that carry malaria — prefer bacteria and sweat. Others are attracted to carbon dioxide and certain hand odors.

Whichever species you encounter, you can protect yourself without having to use a DEET-based chemical repellent. Products containing DEET is shorthand for the chemical N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide, the active chemical ingredient in many insect repellents found in retail stores.

A 2015 article in the Journal of Insect Science examined the effectiveness of various commercial insect sprays, and products containing DEET proved effective and relatively long lasting.

DEET products have the potential to cause health and environmental problems. You might choose to avoid using these products. This can be especially true for children, who are more sensitive too such products.

People do the darnedest things in hopes of avoiding mosquito bites. They burn cow dung, coconut shells or coffee. They drink gin and tonic. They eat bananas. They spray themselves with mouthwash or slather themselves in clove/alcohol solution. None of those techniques have been tested to see if they actually keep mosquitoes away.

A combination of natural oils extracted from the leaves and twigs of various plants are recommended by the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) to assist in repelling insects and bugs. NMSU (New Mexico State University) researchers found that a products containing a natural oil, PMD, was about as effective and as long lasting as products containing DEET.

There is significant research suggesting that natural ingredients are an effective way to repel mosquitos. This is good news for people looking to avoid exposure to toxic chemicals, especially young children and pregnant women.

Although BUGZ AWAY research has shown that our products are effective in repelling mosquitos, ticks and flies our products remain a natural solution to mosquitos, bugs and flies. BUGZ AWAY recommend that you consult with your medical doctor for advice when visiting a malaria area so that you can make an informed decision.
